The Fields is and always will be a work in progress. It was founded in 1989 and was the first design of architect Mike Young. Young has gone on to design and build over 30 courses in the southeastern U.S. as well as Latin America in addition to numerous renovations and redesigns along the way. Mike’s son Ashley is the operator of The Fields as well as site management and co-designer in their design firm Young Golf Designs. The fields has been a place where Ashley and the team can experiment and hone their craft as superintendents to better understand how to make sustainable and maintenance friendly golf courses. Architecture often get the spotlight, but is is the day to day maintenance from talented superintendents that truly bring a course into what it can be.

We strive to make The Fields a quality golf experience and follow a European model that puts much of the excess that crowds the golf space on the back burner and truly start with the bones of the place and work backwards from there. We want it to be a laid back atmosphere with quality golf in the forefront.

The Young’s are the third owner of the course and see themselves more as stewards of this property to gradually bring into existence what this place and golf can be. Their unique skillset and ability to bring construction experience and a long view of success into the mix allows for a high quality, fun, and memorable golf experience at the public level that is often only found at more unapproachable places.

Tee shirts are welcome, our golden retriever Ace will greet you in the pro shop, friendly staff will serve you with southern hospitality, and our grounds crew always has a focus on true greens first and foremost while enhancing the overall aesthetic that makes you feel the place was mowed out of the dirt.

Welcome to The Fields!
